Sterling, IL : Erie man, 36, dies in car crash on Thursday, March 23rd 2017
A 36-year-old Erie man, formerly of Prohetstown, was killed early Thursday in a single-vehicle car crash just outside Erie.
Thomas Michael Weinger, originally reported to be from Clinton, Iowa, was northbound on Sand Road about a quarter of a mile north of Benson Road around 4 a.m. when he missed a curve, crossed the road and hit a guard rail. He died at the scene, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Weinger, a 1999 Prophetstown High School graduate, worked at Poopy’s Pub N’ Grub in Savanna.
Among others, he is survived by his children, Noah and Kaya; his siblings, Karl, William, Sarah, Rebecca and Marissa; and his stepmother, Lisa Weinger.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, followed by private services Tuesday.
