Sullivan County, TN : Kingsport mother killed in crash, toddler survives on Tuesday afternoon, April 12, 2016
A motorist who fatally struck a tree on Tuesday afternoon was a Kingsport woman, according to police, and her 19-month-old passenger has since been released from the hospital.
The crash occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Lebanon Road. On Wednesday, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office named Crystal L. Collins, 28, as the driver of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring. She was airlifted from the scene to Holston Valley Medical Center and later died.
Collins’ young daughter was properly restrained in the vehicle with a car seat and transported to the hospital with minor injuries. She has since been released from medical care.
According to the SCSO, it appears as if Collins’ car was traveling south on Lebanon Road when she lost control for unknown reasons. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment and struck a tree.
The Sullivan County Fatal Incident Reconstruction Support Team responded to the scene to investigate. Also working the scene were Sullivan County EMS, members of the Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department and the Kingsport Lifesaving Crew.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
