A North Huntingdon woman and two Saltsburg residents were killed Wednesday afternoon when two sport-utility vehicles collided head-on on Route 286 in Center, according to state police in Indiana County.

Killed in the accident were: Tammy Henderson, 45, of North Huntingdon, the driver of an eastbound 2012 Chevrolet Equinox; Alden J. Harkleroad, 56, of Saltsburg, the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva; and Jessica Marie Adamczyk, 19, of Saltsburg, a passenger in Harkleroad's vehicle, authorities said.

Henderson was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said. She was taken to the hospital by a medical helicopter, state police said.

Harkleroad and Adamczyk were both pronounced dead at the scene at 1:41 p.m., Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman said. Harkleroad died of blunt-force trauma to the chest and Adamczyk died of blunt-force trauma to the chest and abdomen.

A 26-year-old Saltsburg woman who was a front-seat passenger in Harkleroad's vehicle was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center in White for treatment. Her identity was not released by state police.

The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Route 286 between Ream and Anthony roads, about five miles southwest of Indiana, when Henderson's eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline on a right-hand curve, colliding with Harkleroad's oncoming vehicle.

Both SUVs were severely damaged, police said. Firefighters from Homer City, Indiana and Aultman had to extricate the victims from the vehicles, Overman stated in a news release.

The Curran Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements, the coroner said.
