Medford,OR : No one seriously injured in morning I-5 crash on March, Monday 26th 2018

An Interstate 5 crash caused by a driver attempting to avoid striking something in the road slowed northbound and southbound traffic between Phoenix and Talent Monday morning.

The crash happened at 7:22 a.m., according to Lt. Mark Duncan with Oregon State Police. A 2006 Chevrolet HHR was traveling north in the fast lane of the freeway near milepost 23 when the driver, 22-year-old Warren Ayers of Granite Falls, Washington, saw something in the roadway that turned out to be an asphalt patch, police said.

Ayers swerved to the left into the rumble strip and over into the gravel on the inside median, then over-corrected back onto the freeway, then back to the inside median, OSP reported. The HHR crashed into the cable barrier and rolled. Ayers sustained minor injuries and declined transport to a hospital. No citations were issued.

The vehicle was towed. The response caused a slowdown in the fast lanes for north and southbound vehicles, the Oregon Department of Transportation reported. The southbound lanes reopened at 7:57 a.m. Both northbound lanes temporarily closed at 8:35 a.m., but reopened at 9:05 a.m., ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming said.
