Winston Salem, NC : Man seriously injured in Bolton Street crash on Friday, November, 3rd 2017
Winston-Salem, North Carolina
The driver of a small car was injured Friday around 7:30 p.m. when his vehicle and a truck were involved in a collision on Bolton Street, authorities said.
A large 1968 military style cargo truck — privately owned and not owned by a branch of the military — was traveling south on Bolton Street when a Ford Focus attempted to turn left onto the on ramp to southbound Silas Creek Parkway and turned into the path of the truck, according to Winston-Salem police.
The driver of the Ford Focus, Daniel Beyerlein, did not have a protected green light, police said. The vehicles collided in the southbound lane of Bolton Street.
Beyerlein was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he is being treated for life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck, Samuel Shamel, and his juvenile passenger were uninjured.
Shamel was cited for failure to register his motor vehicle with the state DMV, not having the motor vehicle inspected, failure to have the motor vehicle insured and failure to properly restrain a child.
The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
