Naples, FL : Woman, 87, killed in Collier County crash on Wednesday, March 8, 2017
A Naples woman died Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in East Naples.
Ethel E. Bonesteel, 87, was driving her 2005 Chrysler Pacifica east on Rattlesnake Hammock Road about 11:45 a.m., approaching County Barn Road in the left turn lane, the Florida Highway Patrol reported Thursday.
Karl Amrhein, 47, of Naples, was driving west on Rattlesnake Hammock in the inside lane in a 1994 Mercedes S600 when Bonesteel began to make a left turn on a flashing yellow light into the path of the Mercedes, the FHP said. The front of the Mercedes struck the front of the Bonesteel's vehicle, causing it to be redirected in a northwestern direction. The Chrysler then struck a crosswalk signal on the northwest corner, FHP reported.
Amrhein's car rotated clockwise before it stopped, facing east across the westbound lanes of Rattlesnake Hammock.
Bonesteel was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital and later died.
Amrhein, who suffered serious injuries and went to an NCH hospital, was wearing a seatbelt. It's undetermined whether Bonesteel was, the state police reported.
