A Ridgway woman died in a one-vehicle crash on the Ridgway-St. Marys Road Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, 61-year-old Leona D. Swanson of Ridgway was traveling west on Route 120 (Ridgway-St. Marys Road) near Mohan Run Road in Ridgway Township around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when her 2006 Toyota Camry veered off the road for unknown reasons.

It crossed the center line and the eastbound lane before leaving the roadway.

Then the vehicle went up an embankment and struck a tree while rolling onto its roof.

The vehicle, which sustained major damage, then landed on its roof and came to rest against a nearby camp.

Swanson, who was not wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio.

Police and Muccio were assisted at the scene by Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgway EMS, and D & T Towing.
