The N.C. Highway Patrol says two people riding a moped were killed when they were struck from behind on U.S. 264 in eastern North Carolina.
Local media outlets say the moped was headed east on U.S. 264 in Greene County on Wednesday when it was struck from behind by a sport utility vehicle, knocking the driver and the passenger off the moped.
The patrol said a second SUV hit the moped passenger.
Both people were taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where they died. The names of the victims haven't been released.
Troopers said it's not clear if charges will be filed in the accident, adding that mopeds are not permitted on limited access highways.
According to the patrol, the accident led to several other wrecks on the highway.
