A 23-year-old Palm Coast woman critically injured in an accident involving a Flagler County school bus and another vehicle Friday morning died Tuesday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

ElisaMarie Amber Homan was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach following the accident about 7 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Whiteview Parkway and Ravenwood Drive, FHP officials said.

Homan was driving a Mazda6 and attempting to make a left-hand turn when her car was hit from behind by Brian Szmitko, 19, driving a Subaru Impreza. Homan’s car was pushed into the path of the oncoming bus, according to the FHP.

Both car drivers; Maria Rosa Martinez, 65, the school bus driver; and 25 Buddy Taylor Middle School students were taken to a hospital following the collision. Martinez, Szmitko and all of the students, who were evaluated at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, were released by 3 p.m. Friday.

Martinez received minor injuries and Szmitko was not harmed. Both were wearing seat belts, the news release stated.

An earlier FHP news release indicated that Homan was also wearing a seat belt, but that was updated Wednesday to show that a seat belt was not in use.

It is unknown if alcohol may have been a factor and an investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to the FHP.
