LARKSPUR, CO ; 1 dead, several injured in I-25 crash on Sunday, 28th July 2024
A collision involving several vehicles left one person dead and shut down a nine-mile stretch of I-25 north of Monument for hours on Sunday.
The six-vehicle crash was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday near the Upper Lake Gulch Road exit (172). Seven people were taken to the hospital, and of those seven, troopers said one man later died. He has not been identified as of the time of this writing.
During the crash investigation, all northbound lanes were initially closed from Upper Lake Gulch Road to the Greenland exit (167), but that closure was later extended all the way to County Line Road (exit 163). The roadway was reopened late Sunday afternoon.
While the northbound lanes were closed, traffic cameras showed backups extending for miles.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
