EDWARDSVILLE, IL : 1-vehicle rollover crash in Edwardsville kills man on Wednesday, 10th February 2021

Edwardsville Police have released the name of the person killed in a Wednesday night accident.

Police closed Center Grove Road Wednesday night for several hours following a single-vehicle accident in which the driver was ejected. According to Edwardsville Police Chief Jay Keeven, Vivek Patel, 30, of Edwardsville died in the crash.

A witness told police that at or about 8:40 p.m., Patel was eastbound on Center Grove and passed him on the left, driving at a high rate of speed and then lost control about 20 feet east of Sugar Creek Lane. The black 2012 Honda Accord left the north side of the roadway and struck a culvert, Keeven said, then rolled several times, ejecting Patel in the process.

The vehicle came to rest on the edge of Metro-East Lutheran High School’s property. Cross Towing later hauled it away.

No one else was in Patel’s vehicle and there were no other injuries or fatalities, police confirmed. Keeven said toxicology reports from the Madison County Coroner’s Office are pending.
