Cannon Falls, MN : Patrick E. Daly, 42, killed in hit-and-run crash in SE Minnesota on Sunday, February 8, 2015
The death of a man who was run over while crossing a highway south of the Twin Cities over the weekend is now being investigated as a potential hit-and-run, authorities said Tuesday.
Patrick E. Daly, 42, of Stewartville, Minn., was struck and killed after sunset Sunday while crossing Hwy. 52 on the southern edge of Cannon Falls. The State Patrol initially said Daly was hit by two vehicles, both of which stopped at the scene.
By Tuesday afternoon, the patrol now suspects Daly may have been the victim of a hit-and-run because video surveillance from nearby businesses shows “several cars may have been in the area at the time of the crash,” the agency said in a statement.
“It’s possible there is a driver or drivers that didn’t stop” after striking Daly, said Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson. “Or they might be witnesses.”
Nielson said the patrol is looking for the public’s help in identifying any other southbound vehicles that might have hit Daly as he walked east across Hwy. 52, just south of County Road 24 shortly after 6 p.m. The patrol said people with information can call its Rochester District at 1-507-285-7406.
Nielson said Daly was “not in an area where pedestrians are supposed to be” when he was run over. She said he had come from his vehicle, which was nearby, but she did not know why he was on foot.
The two drivers who hit Daly and stopped were identified by the patrol as Jeremiah A. Wint, 20, of St. Francis, and Michele L. Sosnoski, 44, of Eagan. Both were uninjured.
