Glocester, RI : Uxbridge man dies in car crash in the area of 664 Reynolds Road early Saturday morning, May 28, 2016
An Uxbridge man died early Saturday morning following a single car crash in Glocester, and police say that speed may have been a factor.
Christopher Johnson, 29, of Uxbridge, Mass., was pronounced dead at the scene and turned over to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the Glocester Police Department.
Also involved in the crash, Kati Michalik, 23, of Glocester, was sitting in the front passenger seat. She was airlifted from the scene by Life Flight helicopter and taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
As of Saturday afternoon, she was in fair condition, according to police.
At 1:45 a.m. Saturday, members of the Glocester Police Department and the West Glocester Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a serious car accident in the area of 664 Reynolds Road.
Police found a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck down an embankment, resting against several large trees. It had extensive damage.
When police found the vehicle, both Johnson and Michalik were trapped inside the truck. Officials used the Jaws of Life to free them.
A preliminary investigation shows that Johnson was driving north on Reynolds Road around a curve when the car left the right shoulder, struck the guardrail, continued down an embankment, and hit a utility pole before stopping against several trees.
The Glocester Police Department and the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the accident.
