A tractor trailer loaded with 76,000 pounds of glue crashed off Interstate 88 Tuesday afternoon, jack-knifed and then got stuck between trees.Broome County Sheriff's deputies said the accident happened around 1 p.m., along I-88 westbound in Sanitaria Springs in the Town of Colesville. The vehicle went off the right hand shoulder of the highway, over an embankment and traveled almost 300 feet before getting wedged between trees, police said.The driver, Dariusz Salata, 44, told sheriff's deputies he took his eyes off the road to drink his coffee when the passenger side tires went off a slight incline on the right shoulder of the roadway and he lost control of his vehicle.During the crash, the truck's saddle bag tanks were punctured and 75 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled, police said.Salata, an Illinois resident, was ticketed for failure to maintain designated lane, a traffic violation. Police did not report any injuries.The state police Truck Enforcement Unit, state Department of Environmental Conservation, state Department of Transportation and Sanataria Springs fire department also responded to the accident scene.
