Lynchburg, VA : Man killed in Bedford County crash on Friday, March 10th 2017
A wreck Friday morning in Bedford County involving a school bus killed a Vinton man, according to state police.
A three-vehicle crash occurred at 7:39 a.m. at the intersection of Joppa Mill Road and Virginia 24 (Stewartsville Road), Sgt. Rick Garletts, spokesman for the Virginia State Police, said in a news release.A 1993 Chevrolet Geo Tracker was traveling east on Virginia 24 with a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck behind it. The Tracker was slowing to make a left turn onto Joppa Mill Road when the truck crossed the double yellow center line, sideswiped the Tracker and struck a Bedford County school bus traveling west head on, Garletts said.
Travis Jay Snyder, 29, was driving the pickup truck; he died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, Garletts said.
A 17-year-old man from Moneta was driving the Tracker, and Glenn E. Montgomery, 65, of Goodview, was driving the school bus. Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash; they weren’t injured. There were no children on the bus at the time.
Garletts said the crash still is under investigation.
