Madison County, N.C : Barbara Norton Payne died in a wrong way crash on Interstate 26 near the North Carolina-Tennessee state line on Thursday night, Nov 19, 2015

Troopers said a wrong way driver on Interstate 26 in Madison County caused a deadly wreck Thursday night near the North Carolina-Tennessee state line.

Officials say the woman was driving the wrong way in the westbound lane when she crashed into a car and caused it to spin out of control near mile marker 11.

The car that spun out of control then crashed into another car, according to officials.

Investigators said the woman who caused the wrong way crash, Barbara Norton Payne of Candler, North Carolina, died.

The driver of one of the other vehicles was not injured, according to officials.

Officials say the driver of the other vehicle involved was taken to Missions Hospital in Asheville with serious injuries.

North Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 7:30 p.m. and blocked the roadway until 10:15 p.m.
