A CATS bus stop in east Charlotte is destroyed after two cars raced, crashed into the bus stop, and took out a power pole on Friday morning, police say.
The incident happened in the 1500 block of Eastway Drive just before 10 a.m. The call was originally for a fire at a convenience store on the corner of Eastway and Shamrock Drive. When officers arrived, they described a different scene. They say when the cars hit the power pole, it caused the power surge in the AC system to fill the convenience store with smoke.
Police say one of the cars was stolen. The driver of that car fled the scene in the car of the other driver. The bus stop will need to be rebuilt, officials say.
