Middlefield Twp, OH : David C. Byler dead in fatal crash involving vehicle and pedestrian on State Route 87 in Geauga County on Wednesday, April 22, 2015

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Chardon Post is investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

It happened Wednesday on State Route 87, east of State Route 528 in Geauga County at approximately 3:38 PM.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by John Mast Jr. of West Farmington, Ohio was going westbound on State Route 87.

David C. Byler of Middlefield, Ohio was crossing State Route 87 when he was struck.

Troopers say Mast was not injured and remained on the scene after the crash.

Byler was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Middlefield Police Department and Fire Department, as well as Community Care EMS assisted on the scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
