Shelley, ID : Salt Lake City man in critical after I-15 crash in Idaho Saturday, November 5, 2016

A Salt Lake City man is in the hospital after a three-car crash Saturday on Interstate 15 in Idaho.

John Poulter, 48, was driving in the northbound left lane on I-15 at mile near marker 105, just south of Shelley, about 1:50 p.m., according to a news release from Idaho State Police.

The car behind Poulter struck his vehicle, which caused him to veer right and hit a truck, the release said. His car then left the roadway on the right shoulder and overturned before coming to a rest on the right side of the freeway. The truck also overturned and slid to a stop in the left lane. The car that originally struck Poulter's vehicle left the freeway and stopped in the median.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts, the release said, but Poulter was taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
