ANTHEM, AZ : DPS identifies I-17 wrong-way driver on Sunday, November 27th 2016
Three people are in the hospital after a crash involving a wrong-way driver, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers said.
It happened just after 11 p.m. Monday on Interstate 17 near Anthem.
Authorities said Fermin Cervantes, 51, was driving a Ford F-150 on the interstate at New River heading south in the northbound lanes.
About 3 miles later, he crashed with a Subaru. The collision shut down the freeway for a few hours.
The couple in the car and Cervantes suffered serious injuries.
DPS suspects that Cervantes was impaired. In addition to DUI, he's also facing aggravated assault and endangerment charges. He was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.
