Batavia,NY : Injuries follow two crashes in city on January, Thursday 11th 2018
A rainy evening produced two accidents in short succession on the city’s east side Thursday.
Crews from the City of Batavia’s police and fire departments, along with Mercy EMS, handled both calls between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Injuries resulted in both cases a two-car collision near 400 Towers; and a car striking a pedestrian on Clinton Street.
Batavia police officers said the second accident could have been caused by the low visibility. A man was attempting to cross the street from the parking lot of Sears toward the entrance to Rite Aid when a northbound car struck him.
“He was walking across the street, and was unfortunately struck,” police on the scene said. “Witnesses said it was raining extremely hard at the time.”
The injured man was treated at the scene, initially on the sidewalk and then inside a Mercy ambulance. The accident snarled traffic at the confluence of emergency vehicles and shoppers at the main entrances to both the plaza and the pharmacy.
The earlier accident had caused minor damage to two cars and led to one of the drivers being treated in a Mercy ambulance.
Investigations into both accidents were ongoing as of 6 p.m.
