ASHEBORO, NC : An Asheboro man is in the hospital after wrecki on Wednesday, May 31, 2017
An Asheboro man is in the hospital after wrecking a motorcycle he is accused of stealing.
William Ricardo Hamilton II, 40, of 1007 N. Main St., Randleman, was taken to Randolph Health in stable condition after he was found by Randolph County Sheriff’s Dep. Gurley lying on the ground next to a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection of Indian Springs Road and Foxfire Road, just off U.S. 64 east of Asheboro.
Gurley reported finding Hamilton after responding to a larceny in progress call at 2913 Indian Springs Road. John Gunter of the residence had called in to report a man attempting to steal his neighbor’s motorcycle, then wrecking it at the intersection.
Gurley said Gunter told him he had seen a dark blue Dodge Durango drive through the neighborhood, then dropped off two men. Gunter, who was in his driveway, contacted his neighbor, William Kyle Andrews, who rents the residence next door to Gunter, saying that someone was trying to break into the garage.
Gunter told Gurley that he ran after the two men on the motorcycle and they wrecked, the second man walking from the scene. Andrews corroborated Gunter’s story, saying he was called and returned home to find the side door to his garage damaged and Hamilton on the ground near the motorcycle. Andrews said the ignition switch on his motorcycle wasn’t locked, enabling it to be started.
Gurley reported that Hamilton’s sister, Lindsay Renee Hamilton, walked up to the intersection of the wreck and told him she was riding with Hamilton, Sara Hope Andrews and a black male identified only as Nick. Lindsay Hamilton said she heard Andrews tell Ricardo Hamilton about two motorcycles at her brother’s house that were in Sara’s name and that she would sell them to him for $3,500.
According to his report, when Gurley saw Sara Andrews driving a blue Dodge Durango south on Foxfire Road, he ran over and told her to pull the car over for questioning. She told Gurley she drove Ricardo, Lindsay and Nick over to her brother’s house to see if her brother was at home. She said she dropped out Ricardo and Nick near Foxfire and Indian Springs roads and that she and Lindsay headed to Ramseur.
Sara Andrews also said that she told Ricardo Hamilton about the two motorcycles she had for sale at her brother’s residence. Sara wrote a statement confirming that she was attempting to sell the two motorcycles for $3,500.
After everyone’s statements were given, Gurley then placed both Lindsay Hamilton and Sara Andrews in custody for the time being. Other deputies checked the area for the Nick subject, but he was not located. Gurley said he searched the Dodge Durango and found a glass smoking device, a metal pipe and digital scales, all the property of William Ricardo Hamilton II.
Charges are pending on all suspects as the investigation continues.
