Ann Arbor, MI : Motorcyclist killed in Dearborn Heights crash with priest on Tuesday, March 21st 2017
A motorcyclist died Tuesday in Dearborn Heights after a collision with a vehicle driven by a priest.
The crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at Van Born and Beech Daly roads, according to Dearborn Heights Police Chief Lee Gavin.
Wayne Minster, 67, of Romulus was westbound in the left-turn lane of Van Born Road and went through the intersection at Beech Daly when the crash happened.
The other vehicle was traveling east on Van Born when the driver, a local priest, attempted to turn north on Beech Daly and hit Minster, according to police.
Minster was conscious and talking to medical personnel at the scene, according to Gavin, but died en route to the hospital.
“It appears the motorcyclist was at fault for driving in the left-turn lane,” Gavin said, adding that Minster was not wearing a helmet.
The priest is not considered at fault in the crash.
The priest was from a Dearborn parish, according to Gavin, who declined to give his name.
He reportedly was on his way to give last rites to a hospice patient at a local hospital.
