ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL : One man died and another man was critically injured in a single-car crash on Saturday, September 2, 2017

One man died and another man was critically injured Saturday in a single-car crash on Interstate 95 about a mile south of the U.S. Highway 1 exit, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver of a car traveling north in the center lane of I-95 about 7:13 a.m. swerved into the left lane to try and pass another vehicle, troopers said. The driver lost control on the wet road and the car started spinning out, troopers said. The car spun off the road then overturned several times, ejecting the two occupants, 18-year-old Noah Chavez and 29-year-old Aaron Dalton, both of Deland, Florida, troopers said.

Chavez was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition and Dalton died of his injuries, troopers said.

The FHP is working to determine who was driving at the time of the crash.
