Las Vegas, NV : Teenager killed in RTC bus crash on Vegas Drive near MLK on Sunday evening, Nov 1, 2015
A boy was killed when he was hit by a Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada bus Sunday evening in the central valley, Las Vegas police said.
Medical crews and police were called at 5:12 p.m. to Vegas Drive, just west of Martin Luther King Boulevard, Metro Capt. Peter Boffelli said. The boy, who was described as being about 14 years old, died on the street.
The boy was on a sidewalk with two other people when something "startled" him making him step onto the street, outside of a crosswalk, Boffelli said.
The bus was heading west on Vegas at 32 mph, Boffelli said. It was carrying an undetermined number of passengers.
"There was no way for (the bus driver) to stop," Boffelli said. The boy's family had been notified and were "struggling."
Police were able to interview at least two of the passengers and two people who were with the boy, Boffelli said.
The bus was being taken to an RTC yard and would be out of service "for a while," Boffelli said.
The boy will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
