A driver died in a car crash that left the driver of another vehicle and her child injured Wednesday night on New Leicester Highway, according to county authorities.
Authorities responded to the area of New Leicester Highway at 9:40 p.m. after someone reported a road rage incident, and about seven minutes later a civil disturbance was reported at Top Dog Car Wash, according to a news release sent by the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived at the car wash, they saw witnessed a white 2009 Toyota Corolla, that matched the vehicle description reported in a 911 call.
The driver fled from authorities, crashing through a gate at the car wash before turning southbound on New Leicester Highway. The Corolla then struck another vehicle head-on about 54 seconds later, a news release states.
The driver of the Corolla was killed immediately and two people in the other vehicle involved were both transported to Mission Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
Officials are not releasing identities until family members are notified.
