Callaway County, MO : Six Fulton residents injured when pick-up truck collided with school bus in Callaway County on Monday afternoon, April 13, 2015
Six people were injured when a school bus pulled into the path of a pickup truck and was struck on Route BB near Route PP in Callaway County.
Two people — Aaron A. Sauls, 28, and Latisha M. Thomas, 30, both of Fulton — had serious injuries, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Sauls and Thomas were taken by ambulance to University Hospital.
The crash happened when a 2007 Freightliner school bus driven by Heather M. Deere, 31, left a private parking lot and drove into the path of a 1994 Ford F-150 driven by Sauls, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. The truck hit the front left corner of the bus.
Three children were hurt in the crash; all were taken by ambulance to University Hospital. Jesse J. Conaway, 7, and Lacy M. Deere, 14, were riding the bus and suffered minor injuries. Audry E. Sauls, 5, a passenger in the truck, also had minor injuries. Heather Deere, who was using a safety device at the time of the accident, had moderate injuries and was taken to University Hospital by ambulance.
The Durham School Services bus was carrying students for the New Bloomfield school district. Steve Smith, Durham’s transportation director for New Bloomfield, said the company is waiting for accident reports before deciding whether to take any action against the driver.
The patrol said Aaron Sauls and Thomas were not wearing seat belts, and it’s unknown whether Audry Sauls was using a safety device.
