Clearwater, FL : One pedestrian was struck by a car and later died while attempting to cross Ulmerton Road on Monday night , December 22nd 2014

A pedestrian attempting to cross Ulmerton Road Monday night was struck by a car and later died at a local hospital.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Donald Kenan, 44, of Largo was traveling westbound in the center lane of Ulmerton Road, approaching the intersection of 121st Street North about 8:16 p.m. The traffic signal was flashing yellow for Ulmerton Road traffic and flashing red for traffic on 121st Street North.

Juantavis Westley, 18, of Largo ran across Ulmerton Road, trying to cross the road before the arrival of incoming traffic, the FHP report said.

“Due to low light conditions at the time, driver 1 (Kenan) was unable to observe pedestrian 1 (Westley), and as a result the two collided,” FHP reported.

Westley was transported to Northside Hospital where he died.
