Scottsville, TX : Two dead on I-20 back open after 18-wheelers crash in E. Texas on Friday morning, September 19, 2014
A section of I-20 westbound in east Texas is back open after a fire engulfed an 18-wheeler involved in a crash with another semi Friday morning, leaving two people dead.
Information from both Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff's office indicate the accident happened about 2:30 a.m. just west of the Scottsville exit (Exit 628). That's about eight miles west of the Texas/Louisiana state line.
All westbound traffic was diverted off of I-20 onto Exit 628 until the interstate was reopened before noon.
Troopers say one 18-wheeler was traveling west on I-20 when for some reason it rear-ended another 18-wheeler also heading westbound. The semi that caused the crash then caught on fire.
Crews with the Scottsville Fire Department also responded to the scene.
