Woodland, CA : Vacaville motorcyclist sustains fatal injuries after collision near Woodland on Thursday morning, July 21, 2016
A Vacaville motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries from a collision on US-50 near Woodland on Thursday morning.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Pedro Leon, Felicia Mendoza, of Vallejo, was driving eastbound on US-50 west of State Route 275 when a motorcyclist began driving on the center median in an effort to pass slower traffic.
The 24-year-old cyclist was driving at a high rate of speed and eventually lost control of his motorcycle, hitting the median’s concrete barrier.
Mendoza was driving at around 70 miles per hour in the fast lane when the cyclist was ejected from his motorcycle, landing in front of her Toyota Camry. She struck the man, who was later transported to the UC Davis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Mendoza did not sustain any injuries and was not arrested for her involvement in the collision.
Traffic was affected for about 45 minutes as officers completed an on-scene investigation. Further investigations are ongoing.
Officers do not suspect that alcohol was a contributing factor.
