El Paso, TX : 59-year-old motorcyclist killed in East El Paso wreck on Saturday afternoon, July 30, 2016

A 59-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon while driving in East El Paso, El Paso police reported.

Juan Sandoval, of the 1500 block of Bengal Drive, was riding a UKC custom motorcycle at about 4:20 p.m. north along the 1200 block of Lomaland when he was struck by a car that was turning left.

Francisco Mireles, age 69 of the 8700 block of Iglesia Circle, was driving a Chevrolet Lumina south on Lomaland and was attempting to turn left onto Burnham Road.

Mireles did not yield the right of way to Sandoval, police said. As a result, Mireles’ Chevrolet hit the left side of Sandoval’s motorcycle. Sandoval sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation into the accident continues.

This is the 43rd fatal traffic accident in El Paso this year compared with 30 at the same time last year.
