Walnut Creek,CA : Man killed in Knightsen traffic collision is identified on January, Monday 22nd 2018
A man who suffered fatal injuries last week when he was hit by an SUV while standing in a roadway was identified by the coroner’s office Monday as Michael Ozenberger, 56, of Oakley.
Ozenberger was standing on Delta Road just west of Curlew Connex about 7:37 p.m. Jan. 17 when he was hit by a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo driven by a 28-year-old Georgia man that was going about 40 mph westbound on Delta Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said the area has low visibility and is dark without any streetlights and that the SUV driver did not see Ozenberger in time to stop from hitting him.
Ozenberger died at the scene. The SUV driver, who was alone in his vehicle, remained at the scene and cooperated with CHP investigators. His name has not been released.
The CHP said alcohol or drugs are not factors in what happened. The CHP has not said why they think Ozenberger was in the roadway or if any vehicles associated with him were found in the area.
Anyone who may have witnessed what happened is asked to call the CHP at 925-646-4980.
