Parsippany, NJ : Passenger dies in E. Hanover highway crash on Thursday, 13th October 2016
A passenger died Thursday evening after being ejected during a single-vehicle crash on Route 280 in East Hanover, according to the State Police.
The accident occurred about 6:35 p.m. at mile marker 3.2 on the westbound side of the highway, according to Trooper Lawrence Peele. The driver sustained moderate injuries, and two other passengers sustained minor injuries when the 1992 Dodge Dakota they were traveling in ran off the right side of the road and overturned, Peele said.
No cause was given for the accident, and the names of the occupants were withheld pending notification of the family of the deceased. No other vehicles were involved
Peele said responding officers determined that the driver and at least one of the surviving passengers were wearing seat belts, but investigators were still unsure on Friday afternoon if the deceased and third passenger were strapped in. The investigation is ongoing.
The driver and one of the injured passengers were transported by East Hanover Emergency Medical Service to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. East Hanover police and firefighters also responded to the scene.
The response and investigation shut down the right lane of Route 280 for three hours, Peele said.
