San Tan Valley , AZ : Couple arrested after hit-and-run crash and killed teenager on Friday evening ,May 22nd 2015
A driver in a hit-and-run crash has been arrested in the San Tan Valley after a disabled teenager was killed.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Boyd Palmer has been arrested in connection with the deadly crash.
Deputies say a mother, father, and their disabled 17-year-old son were in a Chrysler van at the Walmart on Hunt Highway in the San Tan Valley on Friday evening. They say Palmer was driving a Chevy Tahoe when he crashed into their vehicle. The teenager was rushed to a Phoenix-area hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators say a witness provided a license plate number that helped them track down a possible vehicle. They also discovered a Chevy Tahoe in the back of the Walmart.
Surveillance video showed that Boyd Palmer was driving that Chevy Tahoe, and in the passenger seat was 36-year-old Megan Palmer: the footage shows the Tahoe did not stop and slammed into the back of the van. Deputies believe the Palmers found a ride to get away from the crash scene.
Deputies tracked down the Palmers, who they say were intoxicated. Boyd Palmer was arrested for DUI, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and manslaughter. Megan Palmer was arrested for hindering prosecution and possession of an open container.
Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “A mother and father tragically lost their 17-year-old son because Boyd Palmer gotbehind the wheel of his Chevy Tahoe while impaired by alcohol and caused this fatal collision. I am proud of thegood work of our Deputies and Detective in tracking down these suspects as we will now seek justice. This is whywhen a deputy stops a driver on a traffic stop, we will never allow an impaired driver to park their car or get a ridehome. Impaired drivers will be arrested and charged every time. Our hearts go out to the Connely family for theirtragic loss.”
