Cedarburg, WI : Two people injured in crash near Cedarburg Strawberry Festival on Sunday evening, June 26, 2016

Two people were hurt in a crash Sunday evening near the Cedarburg Strawberry Festival grounds.

The crash happened near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Western Road as the event was wrapping up.

The crash involved two vehicles and and a number of pedestrians, Cedarburg police Sgt. John Stroik said.

“One of the vehicles veered off into the lawn area and struck several festival goers as they were leaving and going back to their vehicle,” Stroik said. “It could have been much worse.”

One of the vehicles involved, a truck, ended up on the sidewalk.

The extent of the injuries are unknown, Stroik said.

Stroik said one of the drivers is in custody, but it’s unclear what charges they are facing. Police said they don’t believe alcohol was a factor.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the crash investigation.
