ANNAPOLIS, MD : Multi-vehicle crash on Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Saturday, 27th January 2024

The westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge reopened several hours after a multi-vehicle crash Saturday morning on the Bay Bridge.

Around 8 a.m., officers from the Maryland Transportation Authority were dispatched to the area for reports of a large crash spanning the west lanes.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 23 vehicles were involved in the initial crash, and an additional 20 were involved in a series of secondary crashes.

Two patients were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries. Eleven others were also taken to area hospitals; none are believed to be life-threatening, according to the MDTA.

The Bay Bridge did not fully reopen until 2 Saturday afternoon.

On Monday investigators released new details about a vehicle that may have been involved in the crash. Collision Reconstruction Unit investigators believe a blue 2018 Honda Civic (similar to the image below) was being driven at high speeds and erratically before the crash and may have contributed to the crash.
