Eckford Township, MI : Father killed, 2-year-old daughter rescued after crash in Calhoun County on Sunday, July 10, 2016
A man was killed after a crash in Calhoun County that sent his 2-year-old daughter to the hospital.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on 23 mile road near L Drive South in Eckford Township. Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies say the crash was reported by an off-duty Calhoun County detective. The detective heard the crash, and then heard a child crying in a wooded area.
Deputies say the driver, a 35-year-old man, was northbound on 23 Mile Road when he failed to make a left-hand curve, left the road and went into a wooded area. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 2-year-old daughter was found in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. She was trapped inside and had to be extricated. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance where she is listed in stable condition.
The crash is under investigation, but deputies say speed may have been a factor.
