Richmond, VA : One killed, two seriously injured in Dinwiddie crash on April, Thursday 6th 2017

A Dinwiddie County man died Thursday morning after the SUV he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree in the county, according to Virginia State Police.

Rickie R. Yates, 52, died at the scene, police said. Two passengers in the vehicle were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. on Flat Foot Road, about two-tenths of a mile west of Old Stage Road. The westbound 2005 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Yates went off the right side of the road and struck a tree on the driver's side, police said.

Yates was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The crash remained under investigation.
