Douglas County, KS : Four people injured in a Head-on collision on U.S. Highway 24/59, north of Lawrence on Tuesday afternoon, May 3, 2016
Four people were transported to area hospitals after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon north of Lawrence.
Capt. Wesley Houk of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision at 4:12 p.m. at mile marker 393 of U.S. Highway 24/59, about two miles north of Interstate 70.
Houk said the collision involved a northbound blue Ford Escape and southbound silver Kia. It appeared the collision involved the driver’s side of both vehicles, he said.
One of the occupants of the Escape was transported to Kansas University Hospital and the other to Stormont Vail in Topeka, Houk said. Two occupants of the Kia were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A Life Star helicopter landed near the scene at the time the highway was closed between North 1900 and North 2000 roads.
The sheriff’s office is not identifying the occupants of the vehicles and further details until the investigation into the wreck is complete, Houk said.
