Columbia, SC : 49-year-old Dean Allen Mason injured in crash along I-77 on Wednesday, August 5th 2015

The driver of a 18-wheeler has been freed after he was trapped under the big rig for hours following an early morning accident.South Carolina Highway Patrol and Fire officials were called out to Interstate 77 Southbound at mile marker 46 in Fairfield County around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday.Troopers say 49-year-old Dean Allen Mason. the driver of the 18-wheeler, was traveling southbound when he ran off the road, struck a guardrail, and overturned.The driver had to be extracted using a machine. Once he was freed, he was taken by helicopter to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment.The 18-wheeler was a Harris Teeter Farmers Market trailer that was carrying eggs which spilled all over the roadway. The right lane was closed for hours during the accident and clean up. Both lanes are now open.
