Howard County, MD :2-vehicle crash causes I-95 traffic to snarl in Howard County on Wednesday, July 8th 2015
Maryland State Police said a state trooper and two other people were injured in a chain reaction crash Wednesday afternoon in Howard County.The crash happened around 3 p.m. on southbound Interstate 95 in Howard County.Authorities identified the victim as Trooper First Class Wing Tong, who was assigned to the Waterloo Barrack.
State police said Tong was conducting a traffic stop along southbound I-95 near Route 32 near Savage when another vehicle struck the state trooper's vehicle, which then struck the trooper and the vehicle he had originally stopped.Tong was flown to Shock Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other people were taken to Howard County General Hospital with minor injuries.The driver of the vehicle that hit Tong was identified as Maureen Walter, 65, of Poolesville, Maryland. Police said she was taken to Howard County General Hospital.State police said Walter is a civilian employee of the Maryland State Police. They said she was driving a vehicle registered to the department.Authorities said a third driver, Fabino De Aguiar, was also involved. De Aguiar, 35, suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to Howard County General Hospital.Two lanes and the left shoulder of southbound I-95 were closed for a short time, but were reopened, according to the Maryland State Police.Police said Tong has worked with the Maryland State Police for three and a half years.
