At least one person has died in a crash on U.S. 26 near Government Camp.

The driver of a westbound 2004 Ford Excursion lost control on the snowy highway and slid into the eastbound lane, hitting a 2013 Subaru Outback. The driver in the Outback died at the scene.

The crash closed the highway in both directions for several hours at milepost 64 and 65 south of Oregon 35 for several hours. Traffic was diverted on to that highway.

Other details are still sketchy, said Sgt. Yvette Shephard, spokesperson for Oregon State Police.
