Police believe a pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol when that person was hit and killed by a car on Providence Road Saturday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the victim was trying to cross Providence Road near Queens University at 11:40 p.m.
Officers said the pedestrian stepped off the curb, directly into the path of a Volvo and was pronounced dead on scene. We're told they were not in a crosswalk.
Police said the 21-year-old driver tried to brake, but not in enough time to avoid the collision.
The identity of the pedestrian killed has not yet been released.
