NORTH HAVEN, CT : South Windsor volunteer firefighter rescues passenger in North Haven car crash on Sunday, 18th September 2016
A South Windsor volunteer firefighter was in the right place at the right time early Sunday morning.
Driving south on Route 15, at around 6:30 a.m., the volunteer saw a car on fire on the northbound side of the highway in the area of exit 63, according to the North Haven fire department.
With the driver already out of the car, which had crashed into a tree, the volunteer used a tire jack to break the window and get the passenger out.“We’re extremely grateful to the volunteer firefighter who stopped to assist with this serious car crash,” North Haven Fire Chief Januszewski said in a statement. “His quick actions saved a person’s life. I commend his actions and the work by North Haven firefighters this morning.”
North Haven firefighters arrived on scene and treated both the driver, who had serious injuries, and the passenger, who had minor injuries. The driver was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital.
