RALEIGH, NC : At least 1 dead in crash on I-40 near RDU on Wednesday, 16th September, 2020

One person was killed Wednesday afternoon when a car being hauled on a flatbed truck somehow came loose and apparently crashed into another car.

That collision ignited a fire that closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Airport Boulevard in Wake County.

Chopper 11 flew over the scene and saw at least four vehicles crashed on the farthest left lane. Firefighters were on the scene and extinguished the fire.

The Highway Patrol confirmed at least one person died in the crash.
