Charlotte County, FL : Seven students injured after a school bus crash on Cedar Road at Bantry Bay Boulevard in Englewood on Monday, February 8, 2016
A bus driver and seven students were transported to the hospital around 7 a.m. Monday, when a school bus was rear-ended by a pickup, which was then rear-ended by another pickup.
The accident occurred on Cedar Road at Bantry Bay Boulevard in Englewood, according to school district spokeswoman Dee Hawkins-Garland.
There were 22 children on the bus, Hawkins-Garland said, adding that the eight people who were transported received "very, very minor injuries."
The school bus driver, Barbara Kirkpatrich, 64, of Englewood sustained minor injuries.
In addition to the students, the three occupants of both pickup trucks were also taken by ambulance from the scene.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol: The driver of the first pickup, Brandon Blumberg, 18, of Placida was taken to Englewood Community Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the second pickup, Christopher Weir, 43, of Placida and his passenger, Mikaylah Chafins, 16, of Placida were also taken to Englewood hospital with minor injuries.
Blumberg was charged with careless driving, the FHP reports.
