Two people were rushed to a Sioux City hospital after a head-on collision near Ponca Tuesday morning.

Brenden Irwin, 22, of Newcastle, Nebraska, was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City due to injuries he sustained in the accident and Jaime Schweers, 32, of Ponca, was taken by ambulance for her injuries. The Dakota County Sheriff's Office did not know their current conditions as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Ponca Fire and Rescue had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the drivers from each vehicle.

The sheriff's office press release said the two-vehicle accident took place around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 12 near mile marker 237.
