One person died in an accident on Pisgah Covered Bridge Road southwest of Asheboro at about 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Trooper Danny King of the N.C. Highway Patrol said the vehicle, which appeared to be a 2016 Jeep Patriot, was traveling northeast on the two-lane road when it went off the paved surface to the left in a right-hand curve just past a driveway at 6612 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road. The vehicle traveled about 100 feet through a field and then through a stand of trees before it crashed into a tree. ‘I didn’t see any marks of braking,’ King said. The vehicle was in flames when firefighters arrived. A BOLO (Be On Look Out) had been issued for the victim prior to the accident, though it has not been confirmed why. The victim’s remains are being sent to Raleigh to be identified. No other information was available at press time. (Paul Church / The Courier-Tribune)
