Man was critically hurt in a wreck on East End Avenue
A man was critically hurt in a wreck on East End Avenue early Friday, and police spent several hours trying to determine whether a second person was involved.
The Acura that was involved had been going east on East End Avenue at high speed when it crossed the center line and went off the north side of the road, crashed into trees, broke apart and burned, police said.
Police said they were called shortly after 3 a.m. to the crash site At East End and Rowena avenues.
Emergency personnel found the driver nearby.
Officers were told that a second person may have been in the car, but they and firefighters found no one else.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was charged with driving while impaired, driving without a license and driving carelessly and recklessly, a police statement said.
The man suffered a knee injury, two broken arms and cuts on his face, police said.
