Three people were hurt, one critically, in a three vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Cole County.

Missouri Highway Patrol reports show the accident occurred at 12:32 p.m. on U.S. 54 at the west junction of Monticello Road. The wreck occurred about 12:33 p.m., and caused the highway to be briefly shut down.

A vehicle driven by Latonya Murray, 42, Jefferson City, was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of 54 when she pulled into the path of vehicles driven by Aryn Kirkweg, 21, Eugene, and Melvin Stevicks, 69, St. Robert.

Murray, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and life-flighted by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

"The one that caused the accident is unresponsive," Missouri Highway Patrol trooper Chris Winter said on the scene.

Murray was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening at the hospital.

Her passenger, Lyn Mans, 21, Eugene, also did not have a seat belt on and was treated for moderate injuries.

Kirkweg was wearing a seat belt and was treated for moderate injuries.

Stevicks had no reported injuries.
